Biography

I am a professor of cardiology in Abidjan, Ivory Coast. I am currently the President of the Ivorian Society of Cardiology. I also run a non-governmental organisation (NGO), the Research Group and actions against cardiovascular diseases. This NGO contributes to implement the Colours to save Hearts programme of the World Heart Federation in Mozambique. I am a member of the African Research Network which gathers African and European researchers who produce scientific works on cardiovascular health issues in Africa.

Cardiovascular diseases are the leading cause of death in the world. Africa, with more than one million deaths per year from cardiovascular diseases, pays a heavy price.

My experience in training, care, research and non-governmental organisations let me know that we can reduce the burden of cardiovascular diseases in the world particularly in Africa. To do this, we must continue to train the actors involved in the fight against cardiovascular diseases. It is highly necessary to develop strategies adapted to each context as well as recommendations. We need to communicate effectively, coordinate research and advocating for resources. This is the path that the World Heart Federation has taken. This is also the way that I want to go through as a member of the World Heart Federation’s Executive Board.

I would like to ensure that this vision is fully shared by the French-speaking African countries from which I come.

I hope that the African countries will contribute more effectively to the fight against cardiovascular diseases.
