Applications for the Salim Yusuf Emerging Leaders Programme 2023 are closed.
This year, the programme which will focus on digital health across cardiovascular diseases (such as Coronary Heart Disease, Atrial Fibrillation and Hypertension). It will be hosted by the University of Sydney in partnership with the National Heart Foundation of Australia.
The Programme, developed by WHF Past President Professor Salim Yusuf in 2014, provides training and networking opportunities in cardiovascular health policy and implementation research for healthcare practitioners, researchers, and global health advocates.
The World Heart Federation aims to reach a diverse selection of applicants every year. Candidates from academia, civil society, healthcare and the private sector are all encouraged to apply. Candidates may be affiliated with a WHF member organization, but this is not mandatory.
Selected applicants participate in online training, a five-day think tank seminar, and collaborative group work based on proposals developed during the seminar, with seed funding support from WHF for selected projects.
The selection committee will look for candidates to demonstrate their passion for improving CVD care, willingness to participate in collaborative group work, and a desire to make a difference.

All our Emerging Leaders will be expected to complete a set of core modules, which will address fundamental issues in:
These core modules will include pre-reading/work and in-person lectures, roundtables and discussions. The EL participants will be expected to participate in all sessions. As research projects within each stream mature, the focus of online training will shift toward project-specific training and problem-solving.
The selection committee will expect candidates to demonstrate their passion for improving CVD care and making a difference at the grassroots level and beyond.
